About emissions.dev
Carbon emissions data for developers, without the enterprise overhead.
Why we built this
Calculating carbon emissions should be straightforward. But for most developers, it isn't. Enterprise carbon APIs come with sales calls, opaque pricing, and months-long onboarding. Open datasets exist, but they're fragmented, inconsistent, and painful to work with directly.
We built emissions.dev to fill the gap: a clean, well-documented API that gives developers accurate emissions data in minutes, not months. Sign up, get a key, start calculating.
What we do
emissions.dev provides a REST API for calculating carbon emissions across freight, travel, electricity, fuel combustion, and more. Every calculation is backed by recognised data sources including DEFRA and the GLEC Framework, so you can trust the numbers you're building on.
Whether you're adding a carbon footprint to a logistics platform, building sustainability reports for e-commerce, or integrating emissions data into your own product — we handle the data so you can focus on your application.
Our approach
We believe developer tools should be transparent. That means clear documentation, predictable pricing with no hidden fees, and honest about what our data covers and where it comes from. Every endpoint references its underlying data sources, and we publish our methodology openly.
We also believe in starting small. Our free tier gives you full access to every endpoint — no credit card, no time limit. Pay only when your usage grows.
Who we are
emissions.dev is built by a small team who generally work remotely but we also have our main office in Sheffield, UK. emissions.dev is owned and operated by Ecompare Ltd (Company No. 11155291). We're an independent, bootstrapped company focused on making emissions data accessible to developers everywhere.
